Health Freak’s ‘Health Freak EP’

It’s been about 5 months since we’ve heard anything from Health Freak, and that was when he released “The Lost and Found”, a light track highlighted by waning synth (think XXYYXX) and unnamed dialogue inserts. The New Zealand-based producer is heard doing much the similar on his new EP that shares a name with his moniker. Starting things off is “Run and Cuba”, a three and a half minute mix of whispering keys, dialogue interjections, true percussion instrumentation, and cascading synth that encompasses the entire track. The following “Autofocus” is slightly more drum-supported and features R&B/rap samples that counter the conversational dialogue samples. The minimal taste and dialogue-focus of Health Freak is confirmed on the third and final track, “Thanks For Nothing”, obviously presenting the EP’s cohesiveness.
