GrandeMarshall – ‘Mugga Man’

Yesterday saw the second release from 19 year old Philadelphia MC GrandeMarshall on taste-maker label Fool’s Gold. His sophomore mixtape Mugga Man is a long, twenty track mixtape, but the front to back listen never takes a break from staying interesting. Ultimately, what you have here is a collection of storytelling songs and hyphy songs, with enough down, syrupy cuts mixed in that allow enough time to spark or pour one for yourself and regroup for more listening. In my honest opinion, the production that provides underlay for the Philly-slanged lines of Marshal throughout the mixtape is stellar. The beats, a good majority of them coming from MP The Gawd or Marshall himself, set off with the rapper’s verse subjects and the different cadences he delivers them with; the mixtape becomes a stand out because of this. The array of sound that GrandeMarshall is most of the time successful with—from the synth-laden, future bass resonating cut “Weed, Water, And Women” to the soul-based, Asaad assisted “Head To Feat”—is confidently transported to your ears and firmly impressive. Download Mugga Man for free here and watch the video to the title track below.
