Joey Fatts – ‘Chipper Jones Volume 2’

One of the more emergent and attuned to MCs that last year saw, Joey Fatts, has recently dropped off his second official mixtape ever—aside from last year’s Joey Fatts 2012 compilation—with Chipper Jones Volume 2. The mixtape is a big feature affair as he is assisted across the 15 tracks by relatively bigger names that span the likes of Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs, A$AP Rocky, and Danny Brown—the last two rappers appearing on the same, perhaps most popular of the bunch, “Choppa” together alongside today’s main man. And don’t pass off Fatts’ buzzworthiness as inorganic as a result of the big help you are hearing now. Collaborations between himself and 808 Mafia, Alchemist, and Vince Staples, for a few instances, have been in the works since the rapper’s spring up and fast affiliation with A$AP’s homegrown label Yamborghini Records conveniently headed by Rocky’s manager/partner A$AP Yams. Looking at it wholly, Chipper Jones Volume 2 displays the Long Beach-stationed rapper spitting bars of his natural style of gun-toting, weed-smoking, top-dropping braggadocio that he has successfully achieved on his own in the past, which is foiled perfectly by the production score in nearly every case. The spearhead, or k clip for that matter, of the Cutthroat Boyz squad…we clearly understand why.
